The Hegar dilator is a manual, probe-style instrument used to gradually dilate the uterine cervix. Each end has a slightly different diameter, allowing for progressive dilation. The 19 mm and 20 mm sizes are the largest in the standard Hegar set. The solid instrument is slightly curved in opposite directions from the center and has smooth, rounded tips designed for safe, comfortable insertion while minimizing tissue trauma.
